Tool: NoteMesh

Requirements: Internet-connected computer w/ browser

Cost: Free to university students

This is basically a wiki for students who would like to engage in collaborative learning.  Each course that is registered can have students added. Those students can then create content for the course wiki as well as participate in the built-in discussion forum.  This would be a great wiki to use for simple collaborative note-taking and editing without having to learn a bunch of wiki features.

Example Uses

  • an instructor could create a course outline in the wiki and invite students to fill in the details as they progress through the class
  • a student or teacher creates a course wiki and invites others to collaborate
  • a new course could be created each semester or students from new courses could benefit from the work of previous students
  • teams of students could work collaboratively on projects for a course

Benefits

  • collaborative note-taking helps engage the student in the learning process
  • the ability to edit each other's work on the course wiki encourages joint responsibility for learning and assists in building a learning community
