Podcasting has never been simpler! Simply create your account at GCast (it's very easy!) then use your phone to call in your podcasts! Of course, you can also create an audio file on your computer and upload it to your GCast site. Your students/listeners can subscribe to these podcasts via iTunes or other podcatcher so that they receive new messages automatically. Plus, with widgets, you could embed a podcast player just about anywhere - as I've done on this page.
GCast in a Google Gadget
Plugin error: googlegadget (Plugin not found ../common/plugins/googlegadget.inc)
Once you phone in your GCast, you can post it just about anywhere!
Example Uses
Quick reminders to your students about upcoming assignment due dates or exams: You know how it is. One day you're driving home from work and you think to yourself, "I forgot to send out that email reminder!" No worries: Simply call up GCast from your phone and record the reminder.
Highlights of key learning concepts: You're working on the week's unit and you realize that this is the unit that always stumps the students. So, call in to GCast and record your mini-lecture highlighting key points that the students typically miss.
General feedback to the group: Each week, you could record a little message about how the group did as a whole in the previous week's lessons. For example, "Great job last week! I saw a lot of great discussion posts full of some wonderful critical thinking...."
Student-created podcasts: Periodically have the students create podcasts summarizing their learning or reflecting on a particular concept, etc.
Benefits
easy to do - no special hardware or software needed
appealing - multiple learning styles addressed
builds community - voice helps us connect in ways that text can't
immediacy - takes just a few minutes to create and students get them immediately
