Tool: CrowdAbout

Requirements: Existing podcast, computer w/ Internet; microphone or web came to add voice or video comments

Cost: Free

CrowdAbout helps you make your podcasts interactive. Simply add your podcast feed  to create your 'show' then share it with others.  Once shared, people can listen to/view your podcast or vodcast and add text, audio, or video comments.

If you like this tool, you might also like Viddler.

Participate in CrowdAbout Activity

To participate without creating an account, log in with tekguests for both username and password.  The large blank space is normal when it's an audio-only podcast. If this were a video podcast (a vodcast), you would see the video in the blank area.

Have ideas, questions, or suggestions? Add them to the CrowdAbout Contributions page.

Example Uses

  • instead of asking students to post an intro to a discussion forum, create your intro message and have students introduce themselves and reply to you and the other students
  • discuss your syllabus and course and have your students reply that they understand course requirements or ask questions about syllabus/course items that they don't understand
  • podcast your lectures and have students ask you questions
  • host a debate about a specific topic so that students get the opportunity to reconcile multiple perspectives

Benefits

  • commenting feature encourages interaction with content and with other members of the learning community
  • audio and video components address multiple learning styles and engage students
  • once you set up your show, no extra work is required if you are already podcasting
  • RSS feature reduce your  workload by  allowing you to read, listen to or watch the activity on your show from you RSS reader and by allowing you to add
  • ability to embed the show on your course web site means you keep all your course actions in one place (saves time!)
